Sponsorship
Two companies responded to my emails and helped in the production of moodproject for different reasons. Neuropop allowed me to use their scientific audio algorithms for use in moodcapture, while updatestage offered their Shockfiler Director Xtra for half the usual price for use in the Final Visual Result artwork.

Manager/head of sales Updatestage
Dear sir/madam
I am currently nearing the end of my Final Major project for my Bachelor of Arts degree in Interactive Media and have so far failed to find a solution to what your Xtra can provide. The Shockfiler Xtra would enable me to successfully complete my project into 'demographic mood' by allowing an internet user to save a constructed mood visual to my web server for later viewing, and so help me achieve a good pass.
I was wondering if it would be at all possible to receive this xtra as sponsorship for my project? I would advertise any information you require on the university website, my project website - www.moodproject.com and personal website - www.markpeal.com, the exhibitions this summer in three major Uk cities - inc. London, the local papers in two large towns (possible nationwide coverage) and all digital/paper/flyer work I produce.
All I ask is for one use of the Xtra by myself in one shockwave movie that will be available at moodproject.com, or use for 1 month. After that, I will happily destroy /send back the xtra if required.
if this is impossible, any reductions in the Xtra price based on my uses would be very kind.
Further information on the project can be found at moodproject.com.
Thank you for taking the time to read this,
Yours gratefully
Mark Peal |

Hi Mark,
Very nice graphics on your sites! I get many requests like yours, and since I am a small business person who uses the sales of xtras to support myself I am not able to give xtras away. I can offer you 1/2 off on ShockFiler. You can purchase it for $99 instead of $199. It would not include support of any kind, but other than that it would be a fully licensed copy with no other requirements or restrictions for your own commercial use later on.
If you decide to purchase for 1/2 off, please let me know before placing the order because there is no provision for it on the order form and I will need to keep an eye out for the order to manually enter the discount. |

Sorry for the delay in responding and in filling the order. I was out of the office yesterday.

That would be fine. That's very nice of you.
I was going to tell you before you ordered to correct the price field on the order form manually, but I see you figured that out yourself. Sometimes people do that thinking they will affect the price of their order. They don't know that a human fills the orders :)
I have filled your order and a pdf receipt with the discounted price follows. |

HOW TO UNPACK THE ENCLOSED FILES
The enclosed files were compressed as either ZIP files for PC or SIT files for Mac. They were also MIME encoded for e-mail transfer. In most cases your mail program will handle decoding transparently. However, if you have an older e-mail package, it may not handle MIME encoding. If the attachment fails to decode properly please e-mail support@updatestage.com and we will work out an alternate method via ftp.
PC: If you are downloading the files to the PC and receive Mac .SIT files, do not decompress the .SIT files on the PC or they will be ruined for use on the Mac. Transfer the entire .SIT file to the Mac and decompress using Stuffit Expander on the Mac. The .SIT files will not have a Mac icon and will not launch Stuffit if you double-click them. You must launch Stuffit Expander first, then open the .SIT file from within Stuffit Expander.
Mac: If you are downloading the files to the Mac, some mail programs may strip out the Mac icon information. In that case the .SIT files will not have a Mac icon and will not launch Stuffit if you double-click them. You must launch Stuffit Expander first, then open the .SIT file from within Stuffit Expander. Do not decompress the ZIP files on the Mac because some ZIP utilities on the Mac automatically change the ReadMe files to Mac text format, which will make the ReadMe files unreadable on the PC.. Transfer the zip files to the PC and use a ZIP utility to unZIP them. |
